The project sought to identify rights holders and their entitlements and duty bearers and their obligations and work towards empowering the rights holders to make their claims and duty bearers to meet their obligations. CRED worked with district and national leaders to expose illegally issued titles in the oil region that led to their cancellation and the land reverted to the local people who jointly own it through a Communal Land Association. The project also supported restitution of rights of local communities that led to the Rwamutonga community to march back to their ancestral land after three years of displacement and excruciating life conditions in an internally displaced person’s camp.
